Dressing for a May wedding in Chennai

What forty degrees and four hours actually demand of a garment — and why the answer is usually lighter than you think.

Heat is a design brief. A 900 g Kanjivaram in a Chennai May is not a bad saree; it is the right saree for the wrong afternoon.

Three constraints

Weight. Under about 500 g if you will be standing for hours. The weight scale on every product page here is comparable across the catalogue for exactly this reason.

Warmth. Silk holds heat. Silk-cotton, organza and fine cotton do not, to the same degree.

Recovery. Linen creases and will not recover; a silk-cotton will.

None of this means dressing down. A Chanderi with a tissue border reads as effort. A 780 g brocade at four in the afternoon reads as endurance.
