What does a GI tag actually certify?
A Geographical Indication registration protects a product name in connection with a place and a defined method of production. It is administered through registered users and authorised producers.
It is a claim about origin and process. It is not a per-piece quality grade, it does not certify fibre content, and it does not tell you whether a specific saree was woven on a handloom. Those are separate facts, and we record them separately.
