paithani border detail — art direction placeholder

In a Paithani the border and pallu are built by tapestry weave: the coloured weft is turned back within its own area of the design rather than carried across the width. There is no float behind the motif, which is why an authentic Paithani pallu reads almost identically from both sides — and why it takes so long to weave.
